Southern States Phosphate and Chemical is recognized for 110 years of Manufacturing in the Savannah area by the Savannah Chamber of Commerce and Savannah Economic Development Authority.

“Southern States Phosphate and Fertilizer company was founded in 1897 in Augusta. The company moved to the Savannah site in 1902 and is still operating on that site today. The Dulany family purchased the fertilizer company in 1940.

Today Southern States Phosphate and Fertilizer is a sister company to Southern States Chemical, the largest industrial provider of sulfuric acid on the East Coast.

The company employs 95 people in three states; 70 of those employees are based in Savannah.

Since 1999, F. Reed Dulany III has led the company and its parent, Dulany Industries as chairman and CEO. Key Compton has served as president of Southern States since 1996.”

“All of our award winners share CSX’s intense focus on the safe transportation of chemical products,” said Clarence Gooden, executive vice president and chief commercial officer, CSX. “We are proud of these customers and their accomplishments in helping to move these products safely and reliably.”

To qualify for the Chemical Safety Excellence Award, customers must ship more than 600 carloads of hazardous materials during the year without a non-accidental release. Such releases could occur during loading or offloading of products, or by not securing rail car valves properly. CSX and its chemical customers work to ensure that employees are trained on safe loading procedures.

Southern States Chemical wins 2011 PlantWeb Excellence Award!

On October 27th at the 2011 Emerson Global Users Exchange in Nashville, TN, Southern States Chemical was awarded the prestigious PlantWeb Excellence Award for its use of Emerson’s CHARacterization Modules (CHARMs) at the Wilbara Plant in Wilmington, NC. The award was presented to Bryan Beyer, Acid Operations Manager, for his presentation “DeltaV Electronic Marshalling Delivers Engineering Cost and Scheduling Savings for Greenfield Chemical Plant.” Congratulations to everyone at SSC and a special thanks to those who contributed to this project.

 

Southern States Chemical wins CSX 2000 Chemical Safety Excellence Award!

SSC is the proud recipient of the 2000 Chemical Safety Excellence Award given out annually by CSX. Each year CSX recognizes those chemical shippers who have demonstrated excellence in the preparation and shipment of chemicals by rail.
This year 64 chemical shippers received this prestigious Chemical Safety Excellence Award is recognized among chemical shippers as a true measure of a company’s transportation safety commitment.
